This is the first in a series of limited edition wines featuring unique global winemakers. This Cabernet is a collaboration between winemaker, Robert Rex, at Deerfield Ranch Winery in Sonoma and WineCollective. 650 bottles were produced and they were aged in barrel aged for 38 months.

The Series

Since WineCollective was founded in 2009, we've featured over 600 wines from every corner of the globe. Our staff has had the opportunity to taste and experience 10,000+ wines over the last six years. We've visited wineries and met winemakers in the US, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Luxembourg, Spain, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand to find WineCollective members the best value and most unique wines available.

In 2015 we've kicked things up to the next level, working directly with some of our favourite producers to craft unique blockbuster wines specifically for WineCollective members. You can't find these wines anywhere else. We're so excited about the new series and look forward to sharing them with our members.

The Wine

Deerfield

The 2010 'One' by Deerfield Ranch Winery was created especially for WineCollective. We are proud to partner with an iconic Sonoma producer to feature a special wine for our members. Deerfield is located in the center of Sonoma Valley, within the larger region of Sonoma County. Sonoma Valley is on the western side of the Mayacamas Mountains, which separates the AVA from Napa Valley to the east. Sonoma Valley stretches from the south eastern edge of Sonoma County, north to Santa Rosa. Further north of Santa Rosa is the northern AVA's of Sonoma County's Russian River and Alexander Valley. The blend is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, all harvested from organic and sustainable vineyards. Enjoy today through to 2020, with an optimal drinking window of 2017-2019. Decanting is highly recommended and should be for at least an hour prior to serving, at a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius.

Tasting Notes

How it looks

Garnet core with purple reflections, depth of colour and opacity show a full-bodied wine. Lighter edges show some age.

How it smells

Initially tight, but we can extract juicy black fruits, cassis, vanilla and clove. With decanting, the fruits are more concentrated, stewed plums and even prune. Continuing to soften, we find lingering graphite and a hint of leather.

How it tastes

Out of the gate with a bang! We are blessed with mouth-watering acidity and a bold introduction to blackberry, plum, black raspberries and vanilla. The tannins are ripe and chalky, with a finish that lingers after the juicy mid-palate. With time the flavours refine and a silkier mouthfeel.
