In a land that is dominated by Malbec, Chayee Bourras is dedicated to producing the second most widely planted variety in Argentina, Bonarda. The winery is located in San Rafael, west of the province of Mendoza and is owned by Canadians, Gord Ryan and Katrina O’Reilly-Ryan.
We first met the O'Reilly-Ryans at the Calgary Wine Festival where this Bonarda Reserva won People's Choice for Best Red over $30. In Napa, Bonarda is called Charbono. The native home of Charbono is Savoie, France, where it is called Corbeau de Savoie or Douce Noir. The Chayee Bourras Classic, Reserva and Rosé are only available in Canada! The Reserva is aged for six months, 70% in French and 30% in American oak, and only 7,000 bottles of the 2011 vintage were produced. Enjoy at 17 degrees.
Intense bright red colour with shades of black.
Intense aromas of black & red fruits, ripe berries and a spicy background, with flavours of vanilla, coffee and hints of toast from oak aging.
The palate is intense with ripe tannins and amalgamated fruit. Wood allowed complete maturation, leaving a reminder of coffee and vanilla with strawberry jam.
