"On Purpose, With Purpose" is the Ambrosé motto. Co-founders Jake Krausz and Vincent Traverso, both natives of Napa Valley, had the goal to intentionally and solely produce rosé from the valley. They had noticed a trend that rosé was more often than not, produced as an after thought or by-product, rather than the end goal. They took their passion for rosé to the next level, by producing an epic, premium Napa example! 100% of Ambrosé production and efforts are directed towards rosé. The Syrah is harvested from a single vineyard in Bennett Valley, north of Sonoma and the Mourvèdre from Brentwood, just south of Napa. Just 370 cases of the 2016 vintage were produced, with extremely limited distribution in Canada. We find it difficult to find many premium examples of rosé, as the majority tend to fall in the 'cheap n' cheerful' category or never even leave the winery! We enjoy this rosé chilled to 10C and recommend sharing this summer, or by 2019.
Mild, wild salmon colour, consistent from core to rim.
Typical to the varietals in all the right ways, with hints of spice from the Syrah, and herbal, wild fruits from the Mourvèdre. A great mix of fruit and spice, with a warm, sun-baked, stone minerality. A creamy undertone from the oak and ageing process relaxes the perception of tartness.
A blend of 90% Syrah, fermented in stainless steel, and 10% Mourvèdre, fermented in neutral French oak, are blended post-fermentation, then aged sur lie, giving a boost in richness and body. We get limited oak flavours, but find that they are adding to the texture and mouthfeel. Cleansing acidity and minimal, well-integrated tannins allow the flavours of tart cranberry, wild cherry and strawberry to shine.
The higher alcohol and fuller body allows this rosé to be paired with a stronger dish; a Spanish inspired seafood paella with saffron or paprika and a light amount of spice.
