Undurraga has proven its ability to flourish, since planting its first vines 1879. Vine cuttings were imported from Germany and France, and from there, Francisco Undurraga Vicuña expanded their vineyard across Chile. Undurraga became an established company in 1885 and just 18 short years later, was the first Chilean winery to begin exporting wines to the United States. Wine & Spirits Magazine named Undurraga one the "Top 100 Wineries in 2017" including awarding the 2016 vintage of their Sauvignon Blanc 93 points. Chile is known for their "zesty" Sauvignon Blanc, which is one of their most popular varietals. The cool coastal areas of Chile makeup its largest agricultural areas. The climate here is quite Mediterranean, but much more arid than equivalent areas in Europe. The summers enjoy hot days and cool nights, amping up the wines' acidity.
