Luján de Cuyo
José Lovaglio Balbo was born and raised in Salta, Argentina. Winemaking and viticulture are in his blood; his mother, Susana Balboa has seen incredible world-wide success with her wines. At the age of 18, José packed his bags and set his sites on California to learn from some of the greats. After 5 years, he returned to Mendoza to apply his knowledge, while embracing his family's traditions. Vaglio is José's personal project which he started in 2012, showcasing his winemaking creativity and telling his story. Vaglio Chacra is a nod to José's youth, spent south of Mendoza in Agrelo. Produced from 100% hand-picked and carefully sorted Malbec, grown in the clay rich soils in the Luján de Cuyo region. A portion of the wine (40%) has been aged in new French oak barrels for 11 months. Chacra is an excellent example of Malbec's luscious and approachable palate. This wine is playful and a real crowd pleaser! Enjoy now or hold up for a year or two. Serve at 18 C.
Deep inky purple with rich raspberry flecks. The brightness shows the wine's youth.
Wafts of lush and ripe blackberry, plums and raisins burst out of the glass. Vanilla and a toasty oak follow closely behind the fruit. The aromas are intense, reminding us of a warmed berry pie. Floral notes of violet and cherry blossoms linger in the background.
Everything from the nose comes to life in our first sip. Intense flavours of blackberry, blueberry and plum hit first. Vanilla from the oak is present as well. Baking spice and cracked peppercorns are hidden in the background. The fruit forwardness presents a sweetness, but this wine is dry. Velvety tannins and balanced acidity give a rich, round mouthfeel. The body leans toward the fuller side of medium, while retaining a fresh and playful palate.
We like the idea of grilled kabobs or fajitas with a peppery seasoning on the protein. Sweet and spicy BBQ'd ribs are also a great choice.
