Hester Creek is a pillar within the winemaking community of Oliver, and comprises some of British Columbia’s oldest vineyards in the bountiful Golden Mile region. The 95-acre, Mediterranean-influenced grounds, winery, and guest villas evoke an old-world sense of tranquility that take you back to a more simple, unhurried era: a time when a young girl named Hester pondered life and daydreamed by the edge of the creek that would later take her name. Winemaker Rob Summers’ fresh, lively wines convey the extraordinary place from where they were grown. He came to Hester Creek in 1996, lured by the potential of the Valley, and the estate vineyard. The Golden Mile Bench of alluvial sand and gravel is located above the valley floor. Rob notes, "The soil, the climate, the light . . . together they give rise to that intangible magic we call terroir. It’s my goal to make wines that are approachable, but not simple; that are enjoyed by many, and still appreciated by those with discerning palates." Enjoy within the year at 16 C.
Rich and robust, the fruit for this wine was selected from amongst our most mature Merlot vines on our estate. Deep aromas of dark cherry, cassis, vanilla, cocoa and sagebrush lead to a palate of cherry, plum, malt and light toffee.
The 2015 growing season was one of the warmest on record, with harvest commencing approximately 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule. Cooler evenings in the autumn slowed down the ripening process, resulting in ideal ripeness and acid balance for this reserve wine. A lingering, complex finish with well-balanced tannins, this vintage can be enjoyed now.
Pairs nicely with warm winter stew or a cumin spiced homemade burger.
