VQA Lincoln Lakeshore, Ontario
Lincoln Lakeshore is part of Niagara Peninsula. It is "found along Lake Ontario shore from Winona Road to Jordan Harbour and Twenty Mile Creek, and is backed by the foot of the escarpment bench on its south boundary. Characterized by numerous seasonal streams and long gentle slopes that grade northward from the Lake Iroquois Bluff, the appellation is greatly influenced by the Lake Ontario. Breezes from over the deep lake waters cool the sun-drenched vineyards in the summer, and warm them in the cooler seasons, resulting in a longer growing season and moderated conditions for steady, even ripening."- Ontario VQA From the winery, "Viticultural practices included vertical shoot positioning, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand-leaf removal and hand-harvest. Tawse Winery has been sourcing fruit from the sustainably-farmed Laundry vineyard since 2001. Home to some of the oldest Cabernet Franc vines in Niagara, 60% of which are 20+ years old, this vineyard benefits from the tempering effect of Lake Ontario and produces aromatic and complex wines." This is a premium example of Cabernet Franc and can age a couple more years. Enjoy by 2020 and chill slightly to 17 C.
Plummy coloured with cranberry hued edges.
Rich notes of black fruits and oak show through as cedar and brambly fruits.
From the winery, "2012 was an exceptional growing season with a long, hot and dry summer. This resulted in a fruit-forward and fuller bodied Cabernet Franc not typical of the Laundry Vineyard. The usual presence of herbal notes have been replaced by cedar and blackberry on the nose, with smooth but firm tannins on the palate. Notes of raspberries and a long finish round out this gorgeous wine.
Grilled meats or fine cheeses, and good friends.
