Spier Winery is one of South Africa's oldest wine farms. Started in 1692, Spier is more than just a winery, the family run property is dedicated to being a leader in sustainability, conservation and continuous support of local communities. The wine farm has a love for the arts community and has a constant rotation of featured pieces, permanent installations as well as an arts academy.
Spier is committed to sustainable and ecological viticulture, through their vineyard management and wine production, and within all facets of their operations and culture. Spier is one of 29 WWF Conservation Champions and is certified organic and fair trade. Cellar Master Frans Smit's mantra "respect what the vineyard hands you" is embraced by the entire winemaking team. This complex expression of Shiraz from Spier reminds us of perfectly crafted Syrah from France's Rhone Valley. Don't be afraid to tuck one in the cellar for a few years, or serve today at 18 C.

The ripe berry aromas leap out of the glass, no effort is needed to find the fruit-filled notes of this Shiraz! Very dense and ripe plums, black cherries and blackberries are forefront, with accents of menthol, wet cedar, green peppercorns and black liquorice.
Although exploding with flavour, this wine is very elegantly composed and balanced. Expect juicy berries and plums, partnered with cracked peppercorn and cassis to fill your palate. Very plush tannins leave light grip on your gums, and a moderate acidity causes us to salivate slightly. There is a touch of heat that lingers in the back of the palate from the alcohol, which is cleansed away in the finish with prominent notes of fresh, brambly berries.
A perfectly curated cheese and charcuterie board with aged hard cheeses like Gouda or cave-aged Gruyere. A rich mushroom risotto is never a bad idea!
