IGT Toscana Rosso indicates that the wine is red, and from Tuscany. This IGT designation is the most common in Italy. Wine can be produced from any village in any of Tuscany's 10 provinces. There is also less restrictions and guidelines to style and composition with the IGT Toscana title. Under this designation, a winemaker can produce, sweet, dry or even sparkling wines.
Prugnolo Gentile is the local name of Sangiovese in the town of Montepulciano. The Antico Colle is a blend of 70% Prugnolo Gentile and the remainder lesser amounts 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Canaiolo Nero, 10% Mammolo.
The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. The fermentation and maceration process take between 14 to 16 days. The wine is then drawn off from the vats with a light pressing of the remaining skins and seeds. The light skin contact with the juice gives a softer hued wine. Enjoy this year at 16C.
Light, rustic cherry colour. It is bright with small traces of a deeper-browner red.
Inviting and curious, this wine has many different layers from sun-dried tomatoes, to cherry jelly, a bit of wet forest floor and red licorice. Vegetal, but sweet, with additional stewed red fruits, tart cherries and hints of brown sugar.
Medium - light bodied, very slight and lean, providing an effortless sip. There is mild acidity and silky tannins, allowing the fruits to take the main stage. More rustic than the nose, with some woodsy-briar patch notes, wet cedar and light funkiness that replaces some of the fresh fruits. Undertones of vanilla and cherry tomatoes keep the wine elevated through to the finish.
Keep it light and simple, canapés or toast with sun-dried tomato and olive oil and fresh herbs. The nuances of the wine are delicate, be careful not to over-power them with bold and zesty food.
