Namesake of Arthurian legend, the Isle of Avalon is paradise and a land of souls. Known also as Glastonbury, the story states that King Arthur's soul rests here, and will rise to defend England once again. Rich with history, the winery pulls personality from this mythical legend, and blends ancient winemaking techniques with modern technologies - gaining the best of both worlds. Avalon's paradise is defined in their Cabernet, but stories aside, winemaker Alex Cose produces a wine accessible to the masses without any compromise of quality. Cabernet Sauvignon receives the devout attention of Avalon - it is their principle focus and dedication. With extreme attention to detail and only the best fruit selected from premium Napa AVAs, this is a solid California Cab with an unbelievable value. The 2015 Napa County Cab is sourced from the prestigious vineyards of Rutherford, Oakville, and Oak Knoll District. Easily enjoyed today, but can cellar until 2022. We suggest serving at 18 C.


How it looks

Dense, dark cherry hued core with lighter plummy edges.

How it smells

Juicy plums, blackberries and dark cherries jump from the glass. Generous aromas of sweet vanilla bean and cassis provide the richness you expect from decadent Napa Cab. After decanting or spending some time in the glass, complex notes of leather, pepper and violet appear.

How it tastes

This wine offers a significant degree of complexity, we really pick up on the stony minerality synonymous with the vineyards of Rutherford, plus rounded tannins and fresh acidity. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, the addition of 8% Merlot, 4% Cab Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, intensifies the plush, plummy fruit profile and strengthens the tannins and structure. Softer notes of pepper, oak and herbs show stronger the longer the wine is open.

Recommended food pairing

We found a critics' suggestion for this wine, to pair with thinly-sliced seared hanger steak. Try making a wine and mustard sauce, served with roasted Portabello mushrooms.
