Profile

Established in 1896, Willm Estate is a pioneer of winemaking in Alsace. The Willm family set the standard in producing some of the world's best Gewürztraminer under the Clos Gaensbroennel label, prior to acquiring the Willm property. Famously, Emile Willm was responsible for exporting the first wines from Alsace to the United States, post-prohibition.

Alsace wines take influences from both French and German styles. The noble varietals of region are Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat. The majority of wines produced here are white, but there are sub-regions where Pinot Noir is the exclusive production. In Saint-Hippolyte, Rodern and Ottrott Pinot Noir is King, and these cool-climate representations make bright, tart and herbal red wines with red fruit flavours and a spicy finish. Alsace rosé is produced only from Pinot Noir. You will find a similar flavour profile as the 'rouge' wines of Alsace, with fresh acidity and a pretty pink hue. Enjoy this summer at 8-10 C.

Look

Clean and clear, beautiful, 'ballet slipper' pink. A tone of blush that has some peach reflections and a watery rim.

Smell

Extraordinary notes of strawberries, wild and green, also ripe and juicy. Notes of apricot give us a bit more of a rich orchard aroma, while cherry blossoms and white pepper give a spicy floral scent. Underlying tart crab apples give a burst of personality to the rich red berries.

Taste

Leaning more toward the tart, crunchy fruits of crab apples, cranberries and green strawberries, the palate is zesty and fresh. This clean and zippy fruit profile partners well with more blossoms and concentrated citrus notes from orange zest. There are hints of minerality and rose water that seem to play off the pretty hue of the wine. A pop of acidity and light tannin that tickles the gums, cleanses the palate and gets us ready for our next sip!

Pairing

With some extra body, you can fire up the BBQ and throw some shrimp on it! Light seasoning and herbs will compliment the bright, but serious rosé.
