The German word, "Prämie" (pronounced prim – ee – er) means “premium” or “reward." This wine came to Schild with a desire from the winemaking team to showcase the most exciting parcels of the year. Designed to express the most premium parcel of fruit, from a particular vintage, it is a pleasant surprise to see which blocks respond to different conditions and emerge on top.
Yields were quite low in 2013 after a warm and dry growing season, giving the fruit time to ripen evenly with great flavour and depth. Tannins became prominent which offered great structure and framing to wines of 2013. This vintage's Prämie is composed entirely of Shiraz sourced from blocks in the Liebich (80%) and Angus Brae (20%) vineyards. It was aged in new, and seasoned, French and Hungarian hogshead barrels. A spectacular wine, receiving 96 points from James Halliday! Enjoy at room temperature, cellar until 2025.
Deep, dark ruby.
Full, soft and layered with aromas of vibrant blackberries and blood plum fruit. These are coupled with secondary more subtle hints of cedar wood, fresh vanilla bean and clove spice.
Intense primary fresh plum flavours show again on the palate, where they hold their presence all the way through. A firmly present, but fine tannin framework provides just enough focus and lift for the fruit to ensure added complexity, but retaining vibrancy to the mouth flavours.
Smoked or grilled meats. Blue cheese and sharp cheddar.
