Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
Niagara Escarpment, Ontario
The Niagara Escarpment is a regional appellation within the Niagara Peninsula (one of 3 defined larger regions). This area represents the bench lands along the Niagara Escarpment, west of St. Catharines to Grimsby. There are 3 sub-appellations here, all with unique terroir that distinguishes it from the others. The bench topography and steady water supply helps to define a character unique to the wines produced here. The larger Niagara Peninsula is home to cool-climate varieties, like Riesling, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc - all which are showcased in Vineland wines. There are now over 46 thriving varietals planted in the region, stretching across across 13,600 acres, home to about 55% of Ontario's VQA wineries. Enjoy this blend by 2020 at 18 C.
Medium ruby core with fading edges.
Brambly notes of dark berries, ripe and bursting with flavour. Light notes of more concentrated cassis are balanced with herbaciousness and savoury spice.
From the producer, "The deep berry notes, dark chocolate and aged cedar are comforting and familiar but the complexities within those characters and in the spaces that surround them will take you by surprise. A full, graceful structure on the palate easily bears the new weight of the wine and somehow makes all of the interlaced nuances more accessible. This is a champion reborn."
Structure enough for steak night, but also easy enough for take-out burgers. The Cabernet Franc in the blend has an affinity to rustic flavours, add mushrooms or roasted eggplant to your dishes.
