Paso's agricultural roots in almonds (once referred to as the "Almond City"), grains and cattle, as well as the mighty Zinfandel! Through the years, the varietal mix has increased with an emphasis on Rhône grapes like Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache. There are also more winemakers experimenting with Spanish white and red varietals, like Albariño and Tempranillo, further diversifying and transforming the identity of this exciting region. Since 2014, this large AVA has been broken down into 11 sub-regions, helping to distinguish more of the unique micro-climates found over its 614,000 acres!
Enjoy this fresh and juicy blend today, or keep on hand for that perfect guest to share it with. Best to enjoy before 2021 and at 18 C.
A medium-dark ruby core, with edges that are more garnet.
Dark and savoury aromas that are fairly pronounced right out of the bottle - no swirling needed to coax this beautifully scented wine straight to your nose! Tons of black currant and blackberries, followed by black peppercorns, licorice, juniper, and cocoa powder. There are hints of floral aromatics and fresh cut herbs too.
A bushel of farmed berries, from raspberry, blackberry, and even blueberry too. There is a good balance between over-ripe fruits that give a sweet richness, with tart fruits like currants that liven things up a bit. Medium-bodied, but trending towards a lighter style - amazing how all this flavour is packed into such a lean and elegant package. The acidity is solid and the tannins are firm, but not aggressive. Everything plays nicely here and falls into line perfectly! This velvety mouthfeel supports more notes of chocolate cherry, and smoked oak through the finish.
