Limarí Valley, Chile
Alc. 14 %
The Limarí wine region offers something a little different from the other Chilean regions. The climate here is warm to moderate, and the cooling effects of the ocean give the grapes a break from the heat, especially at night. Grapes are kind of like people, we don’t mind being warm and toasty during the day, and hanging out in the sunshine, but it’s hard to sleep at night if it’s too hot. Cool breezes blow through the Limarí Valley giving the grapes a bit of relief from the heat, which in turn increases the natural acidity of the grapes. This is especially important for wines like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, so they don’t come across as jammy or flabby. The wines of Limarí have a freshness that can only be achieved because of the region’s proximity to the ocean, the blanket of morning fog, and the protection of the Andes Mountains.
The award-winning winemaking team at Maycas del Limarí, has over 40 years of experience between them, which includes famous wineries like Concha y Toro, Don Melchor and Puente Alto. Understanding the unique climate and soil of the Limarí Valley, Vina Maycas chose to specialize in these two Burgundy varieties. The approach for Maycas is minimal intervention, allowing the variety and terroir to shine through and be the star of the show. We recommend drinking this Pinot Noir now and serving lightly chilled at about 12-14 C.
Pale to medium, brilliant ruby with a slight brick-ish hue.
There is so much going on in the glass! Raspberry, cherry, mushroom, soil, earl grey tea and raspberry bush. The unique aromas meld beautifully without becoming muddled. The earthy and slight vegetal notes are typical to Chilean Pinot, and we love it!Every time you take another sniff, you’ll get something new and different.
Soft and fresh on the palate, as we come to expect, knowing the Valley’s climate and terroir. The acidity expresses itself in mouth-watering, tart red fruit. The tannins are present enough to give the wine structure without distracting from the flavour. Delicious flavours of raspberry tea and red cherry are balanced with a bit of minerality. It’s not too fruity and not too earthy, perfectly balanced and delicious!
If you’re making tacos on a Tuesday night this is the wine you want. Fish tacos with goat cheese and fresh avocado or a taco salad with seasoned corn and blackened chicken on the BBQ are great options for easy meals, and fool-proof pairings.
