Creekside Estate is a staple and prized winery from Ontario. Locals should have no problem remembering the last time they enjoyed a great bottle of Creekside wine, but the rest of Canada probably has not been as fortunate. Currently not available in Alberta outside of WineCollective, and with very little distribution outside of Ontario, the 2018 Pinot Grigio is a rare find. We suggest stocking up, unless you plan on vacay in Niagara, you might not see Creekside for awhile!
However, if you are in the area, we implore you to visit! Not only will you find fabulous wine (obviously), you can take it easy in the chill and relaxed tasting room, maybe sneak a peak in the epic below ground barrel room, or have a bite to eat on their deck surrounded by a pond, trees and wildlife. We know it isn't difficult to find a winery with a divine setting, but the people and charm at Creekside really set it apart from the rest.
From May until October the winery is a bustle of activity and events. Check their schedule and follow them on social media to keep up with the latest happenings.
Pinot Grigio isn't intended to be aged or cellared, however if made with the right balance and acidity, there is no urgent rush. Chilled to 8 C to cool you down this summer, or a perfect Thanksgiving wine if you have enough patience to wait until October.
In the bottle the wine shows a stronger peachy hue, which softens in the glass with gold reflections.
More than just a colour, we find aromas of fuzzy peach and peach flavoured iced tea. Crunchy golden apple adds more freshness and orchard fruit juiciness. There is a great layer of sun baked stones that gives us some minerality too.
Medium - light bodied with a bit more oomph than your everyday PG. You don't have to take this wine too seriously, but if you wanted to mull over all the layers and complexities, you might need to set aside a few more minutes. Displayed on a dry and crisp base, your effortless sips are full of fruit flavours, from honeydew melon, golden and green apples, and of course more peach! There are citrus notes grapefruit and lime zest, followed by a cleansing and mouthwatering acidity.
Sunshine, laughter, and friends on the patio after a hard week at the office. A dry wine with good acidity calls us to Baja fish tacos. Fixings to your own tastes, but we suggest slaw and avo crema.
