Garnacha, Tempranillo, Macabeo
Located in the town of Aniñón, Las Capas vineyards are grown among cherry, almond and olive groves. Just over 800 acres of high altitude vines are home to mostly Grenache, with smaller plantings of Tempranillo, Syrah, and Macabeo. This blend, created by Dan Kravitz, is a similar composition to the estate vines planted (only leaving out Syrah), with 63% Garnacha, 30% Tempranillo, and 7% Macabeo. Aniñón is in the province of Zaragoza, northeast of Madrid and about equal distance between Bilbao to the north and Barcelona to the east. The wine appellation is called Calatayud, and is located within the larger region of Aragon, which along with Campo de Borja is known for Spanish Grenache. The area is notable for its dry and arid terrain of rolling hills, where you can also find Roman, Moorish and Christian ancient relics, architecture and historical sites. You will have a hard time finding a better wine to become your summer staple! A perfect red wine to chill slightly and enjoy during the warm months, bring down to 15 C and serve this year.
Bright raspberry red with a darker core and medium opacity throughout.
Strong aromas of freshly picked, ripe raspberry. Without showcasing a confectioned sweet note, there is red licorice, raspberry jam and Swedish Berry candies. All these flavours are derived from a base of vanilla bean and crushed summer berries, and we are loving it!
Silky smooth and light bodied on the palate, with ease and effortless appeal. Although lean and easy drinking, this wine isn't simple. The fresh picked berries we expected arrive in abundance on the tongue, providing a seamless experience from the nose. Bolstered by herbal flavours of dried oregano and cocoa powder, there is still ample juiciness and acidity to keep the freshness alive.
