Named after South Africa’s most iconic bay, False Bay Vineyards was born out of a desire to make wine with as little interference as possible. False Bay's founder, Paul Boutinot, came to the Western Cape to seek out and rescue grapes from old, balanced and under-appreciated vineyards. Paul would later transform those Cape gems into wines with a minimum of intervention, wild yeast ferments, no acid additions... just fabulous natural wines.
The Coastal Region is one of five sub regions located in the Western Cape. Coastal Region reaches north to Darling, Constantia to the south, and Paarl/Stellenbosch to the east. This vast area covers almost half of South Africa's acres under vine. Because this area is so large, it is home to many different micro climates, and as a result, grape varietals. From classic Chenin Blanc to Bordeaux varietals, and of course Syrah!
The wines of False Bay Vineyards stay true to this today: using fantastic coastal fruit, naturally balanced grapes and wild yeast ferments abound, with additions avoided, using only sustainable farming techniques, and handpicking every grape that goes into their wine. This beautiful new world Syrah showcases it all, fermented by old-school methods and aged in large wooden casks. These methods are used to embrace the natural beauty and flavour of the wine. Serve at 18 C and start exploring the legacy of the Cape today, or by 2021.
