Truly a family-owned business, Westcott Vineyards began with a dream in 2008 when Grant Westcott and Carolyn Hurst chose to sell their home in Toronto and move their family to Niagara. Having pursued careers in different fields for most of their lives, and nearing retirement, they chose to redirect and pursue their passion for wine. With Carolyn acting as the catalyst, an oenophile in her own right, they decided to combine her knowledge and love of wine with Grant's previous experience working off the land earlier in his life. Not exactly the retiring types, they chose to "bet on themselves" and planted 28 acres! Westcott Vineyards now consists of a gorgeous building with a 200-year-old frame and foundation, repurposed from a farm several kilometres away, and a tasting room. Their son and daughter, Garrett and Victoria, have also joined the team, opting to join the family business and share their love of wine and the Niagara region! Drink now and serve at 12 C.

How it looks

How it smells

An excellent example of the Chardonnay varietal; aromas of stone fruit, peach, and lemon zest emanate from the glass. The time spent in French oak barrels presents itself with hints of vanilla and brioche. Leaving the wine to sit for a few minutes in the glass allows the fresh notes of stone fruit and peach to become even more prominent.

How it tastes

If you thought the nose was fresh - just wait until you taste it! Fruit notes of apple, peach, and stone fruit greet your palate right off the bat. Citrus elements from the nose mature into a lemony pith (the white matter on the inside of the peel). To round it all off, the French oak lends itself to flavours of baked apple and butterscotch. Medium bodied with a healthy weight to it, this Chard is lively and bright with a finish that just won't quit!

Recommended food pairing

Well suited to seafood dishes. Specifically, mussels and clams with a cream-based sauce. Spaghetti alle vongole or a typical chowder would pair perfectly.
