There is a handful of wines in the history of WineCollective that we simply can not get enough of. You guessed it, this is one of them! This is the third vintage of Clos d'Alzan that we have featured. Why? Simply, it is that good and an outstanding value. This is our benchmark wine for an affordable Rhône blend that showcases the best of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah. Blends make some of the best wines, allowing winemakers to build the perfect balance of body, flavour and aromas.

Grenache is light in colour on its own, but offers a blend lots of red berry fruit flavours, like raspberry. It also adds to the alcohol content, giving the wine a 'zing'. Syrah has darker and deeper fruit notes, here we find it in plum and dark cherries. Syrah also imparts some savoury and spicy qualities, balancing out all the fruits. And last, but not least, Mourvèdre! Usually not the largest component of a GSM blend, but even in small quantities adds great body and texture, and notes of blueberry and florals.

Enjoy this blend year round, and stock-up, it is sure to be a crowd favourite! This wine will keep well in your cellar for several more years, easily until 2022. Serve at 18 C.

Plum coloured, looks velvety and rich. The colouring looks bright and youthful.

Berry-rific and bold. The aromas are strong and rich right out of the gate, with bountiful blackberry, plum and black cherry. The ripe fruits are accented with violet, light vanilla, herbal tones, and briar patch. There is a touch of menthol and a bit of heat from the alcohol too. As the wine opens, brighter notes of currants and cranberry are balanced by light cracked black pepper.

Sandy tannins coat your palate, carrying a medium weighted wine with strong earthy and mineral notes. The plump fruit aromas from the nose take the back seat, and instead there are stronger oak, bark and soil flavours. We like this masculine and rugged wine, with hints of plum skin, cocoa dust and sandalwood. The acidity is medium, slow building, and consistently growing as the wine travels across the tongue. The finish is brambly, woodsy and dark, ending clean with light residual tannins and slight heat.

The classic trio of GSM plays well with rustic flavours, and we can't think of anything better than mushroom, from risotto to quiche. Go Canadiana with a tourtière - a flaky crust and savoury sauce.
