Profile

Pinot Gris (also widely referred to as Pinot Grigio) may be one of the most widely-known grape varietals. However, there are a few lesser known facts. For example, this greyish-purple grape is a mutation of Pinot Noir that was first found in France's Burgundy region back in the Middle Ages. Pinot Gris is occasionally found in white wine blends, but it is most commonly seen in single varietal wines like this one. Don't be fooled — each Pinot Gris has its own character and personality to offer that is determined by the region and the winemaker.

Creekside Estate Winery has plenty of personality to offer — not only in their wines, but in how they present themselves. Self-proclaimed "cork dorks", their tag line is "Serious Wines from An Irreverent Bunch". Established in the small town of Jordan, Ontario back in 1997, Creekside is not afraid to put the work in. Their website warns prospective visitors to "leave the dress shoes at the office", as a tour will likely involve a trek through the vineyards that will leave your shoes muddy and worn! Serve at 7 C and drink now.

Look

Pale straw core that is crystal clear giving way to luminous edges with a hint of pale yellow.

Smell

A few swishes in our glass and we are greeted by light and airy aromas that remind of us springtime. Fruit notes of pears, gala or ambrosia apples drift out of the glass. There's a slight citrus element that intermingles with hints of white flowers like Lilly of the valley.

Taste

Fruit notes of ambrosia apples are repeated while the pear flavour matures into a ripe Asian pear. Modest notes of white nectarine come together with a peppy touch of lemon. There is an abundance of minerality to be found here, almost like licking wax paper. Medium bodied with a lively acidity we love the hints of ginger and honeysuckle that continue on through the generous finish. We also find a slight tinge of almond.

Pairing

Although we could easily enjoy this wine on its own, we also love the idea of adding some salt and pepper squid or ceviche into the mix!
