Pinot Grigio is a staple wine varietal and found on many 'house wine' lists. But not all PG is created equal! We see Pinot Grigio frequently because it can easily be found of decent quality and at a value-driven price. That doesn't mean PG is easy or simple; those who produce it well can develop layers, texture, and great flavours from this Italian grape. The Ca' del Sette is exclusive to WineCollective and not found anywhere else in Canada! This beauty really caught our eye (or tastebuds) with its effortless nature and quaffability. Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are actually the same grape, but in Italy is referred to by the former. Pinot Grigio is a mutation of Pinot (red grape) and is related to both Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Pinot Grigio is known for being light bodied, fresh, and full of citrus and apple flavours. A family-run winery since 1865, Ca' del Sette encompasses more than 150 years of viticultural experience. Located in the northeastern wine region of Veneto, vineyards are planted in the sub-region of Vicenza, under the acclaimed Pinot Grigio designation of 'Delle Venezie'. Wines here are produced within the expansive borders of Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige. Enjoy this bottle fresh and in its youth by 2020, and chilled to 8 C.
Very pale, watery white with a tinge of grey and a crystal clear rim.
The aromas are soft and romantic, dominated by stone fruits like pear and peach. An alluring scent of chamomile tea and white blossoms — think apple orchard in the spring — and freshness from lime zest.
The flavours on the palate mirror the aromas, with delicate and subtle fruits like pear, peach, and golden apple. The acidity is good and gives us a tingly sensation, creating a crisp and refreshing Pinot Grigio, which finishes off well-balanced. Secondary notes of dried grass or thistle and lemon water add more dimension and soft herbaciousness. Light bodied, but carries tons of elegant charm.
A Waldorf Salad is classic and full of all the things that would marry well with this Pinot Grigio, from crisp celery and apples to juicy grapes and crunchy walnuts. Toss in a light, creamy, and lemony dressing to finish off the perfect meal.
