Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
Alc. 14 %
Established in 1998, Tenuta Monteti began when Gemma and Paolo Baratta finally found the land they wanted to set down their own roots in. This was no easy feat! When the Baratta's purchased the land, there were no vines planted. In fact, there was nothing at all! It was simply grazing land that boasted nothing but a run-down house. Nestled in a small valley in southern Maremma, this allowed them a clean slate to plant the varietals they felt were best suited to the climate and soil. They began with Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
As preparations for the vineyards began, diggers found enormous boulders throughout the vineyard. These were carefully extracted and placed around and between the vineyards. These boulders are now viewed as the guardians at Monteti and can be seen on the label of this bottle — their flagship wine. Monteti is named after the hill that protects the vineyard from the strong Mediterranean wind. Drink now or cellar until 2024. Enjoy at 20 C.
Impenetrable deep ruby core with the faintest hints of purple leading out to bright ruby edges.
Luxurious and inviting, we are loving the dark fruit aromas that this wine has to offer! Blackberries, blackcurrant, and black cherries intermingle with sweet spices from the time spent in oak. Having matured since 2014, hints of tobacco and leather add an intriguing depth and complexity.
One sip and we are thrilled with all that this wine has to offer! Slightly jammy black fruit notes of blackcurrant and plum are flawlessly integrated with liquorice and star anise. Tobacco, leather, and the slightest hint of underbrush round out the sweetness of the fruit. Full bodied with refined tannins that coat our palate, there is a healthy acidity that follows through the extended finish. Certainly an elegant addition to any evening.
Save this for an evening where you have time to prepare something special! Lamb, beef, and veal dishes would be complemented by a wine like this. A hearty veggie lentil stew would also stand up well alongside this wine.
