The sparkling wine world has become an expansive one. With excellent options available from all corners of the globe, at widely varied price points, there is little excuse anymore to not indulge in bottles of bubbles. When most people think of French sparkling wine, they are likely first going to mention Champagne. However, if you expand your search beyond the Champagne borders, you will find exceptional sparkling wine being made throughout France. In fact, you'll find many wines called Crémant, which is sparkling wine made using the same techniques as Champagne. The Crémant we're featuring is made of Chardonnay grapes in the Burgundy region, just south of Champagne.
What is special about Crémant vs Champagne, besides price (which is usually vastly different)? Traditionally, it had a less formidable effervescence and was well-known for being a bit more delicate, or 'creamy' than its bubbly cousin. Today you can find Crémant that ranges from frothy to vivacious. In this case, we're sharing a sparkling Chardonnay, which is one of the main varietals grown in both the Burgundy and Champagne regions. Crémant has quickly taken up a soft spot for us and we're always looking for new bubbles to enjoy. We're excited to share this fine French bottle with you and recommend enjoying it this year sometime, chilled between 5 and 7 C.
