You are in for a treat! WineCollective has previously featured this wine's sister, the Real Compañía Grenache, way back in 2014! We are sure that the same inviting, juicy, bold and fun characteristics of the once popular Grenache, will launch this Tempranillo into your Top 10 list! Dating back to 1926, this Murua family business combines the traditions of old with new technologies that best express indigenous and single varietal wines. Real Compañía de Vinos is a side project to Bodegas Murial, created by the father and son duo in 2007. The Tempranillo is grown in a continental-Mediterranean climate, which creates drastic contrasts between night and day temperatures. This diurnal temperature allows grapes to ripen in the heat of the day, and relax in the cooler evenings, further adding to the aromatic and expressive character and retaining acidity. Tempranillo is found around the world — it is actually the fourth most planted grape, from Portugal to Australia and even California — but nowhere else is it more home than in Spain. Enjoy by 2022 and serve at 16 C.
Vibrant and jewel toned, a velvety purple that is deep and concentrated.
The aromas waft out of the glass; without even trying we can find a batch of berries and plums that are ripe, sun-baked, and rich. True to the varietal, we find fig, cedar, and some pepper notes, with light leathery aromas too.
Unsure about Tempranillo? Think Cabernet — it is also fresh and fruity in its youth and can age gracefully. Both grapes also develop well with oak aging and prefer similar climates. Tempranillo can range in styles, but this bottle is medium to full-bodied, with great structure, sandy tannins, and moderate acidity. Red plum, woodsy underbrush, dried herbs, tobacco leaf, and roasted pepper give this wine a fruity, but savoury complex, and we are loving it!
The winery suggests paella and tapas, which showcases how diverse this red can be. This Tempranillo can handle a touch of spice and bold flavours. We like a Mexican night in with fajitas, loaded with charred peppers, savoury rice, and grilled chicken.
