Located on the extreme western end of Australia's McLaren Vale, a short 50 meters from the waters of the Saint Vincent Gulf, Lost Buoy Wines has built a reputation for crafting finely-balanced, elegant wines from the region's signature grapes. And while Sauvignon Blanc might be more commonly associated with neighbouring New Zealand, Lost Buoy's Gulf View is proof that it can be equally delicious when grown in a warmer region! Part of the credit goes to the winery's proximity of the ocean (closer than any other vineyard in Australia) and its cooling afternoon breezes. This natural air conditioning helps regulate temperature extremes and allows the finished wines to retain high levels of acidity - a key component of this zippy, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc!

The appearance might deceive you into thinking there won't be much going on here, but this wine jumps out of the glass with textbook Sauvignon Blanc aromas: fresh cut grass, lemon rind, grapefruit pith, and honeydew melon, all held together with a hint of brisk, ocean-spray salinity.
The fruit is the star of the show on the palate, with plenty of ripe citrus, gooseberry, and melon. Finely balanced acidity complements this slightly fuller example of the grape, and the finish is long and pure with good clean fruit and a refreshing zip. More, please!
This is a perfect spring and summer aperitif wine that can (and should!) be enjoyed on its own, but try pairing with a salad of snap peas, peppery arugula and goat cheese drizzled with a simple dressing of lemon juice, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. And bring on the sun!
