Profile

From Domaine de Castelnau, located on the southern coast of France, is an exciting red made from three outstanding local French grape varietals: Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Grenache. Besides their striking, rolling vineyards, Domaine de Castelnau is also at the forefront of environmental growing. Certified as High Environmental Value, the vineyards and farmland have adhered to practices which promote environmentally-friendly applications in four key areas: biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertilizer use, and management of water. Through these practices, Domaine de Castelnau has been able to continue producing exceptional wine from a traditional French region.

It's always exciting to see wine labels in old world regions take the initiative to make "newer" values like environmental stewardship a priority for how they do business. France takes their wine very seriously and we are eternally grateful for their continued commitment to producing outstanding wines for all to enjoy! The Epicerie de Castelnau Rouge can be shared any time this year and is best served around 19 C.

Look

Vibrant deep purple with brightly glistening red edges.

Smell

A striking nose has our mouth watering immediately! Bursting blood oranges, wild strawberry, and very subtle hints of licorice. This will have you ready to get sipping with a strong nose, full of fruit.

Taste

A light-medium bodied red, this blend is wonderfully inviting from the very first sip. Some of the deeper citrus from the nose like blood orange dissipates quickly, before ushering in mint, ripe cranberry, and baking spice. Thanks to the inclusion of Carignan and Mourvèdre, there is a subtle meatiness here that is balanced by lighter tannins.

Pairing

This read is calling for a slow roasted pork shoulder with plenty of rosemary and garlic. We'd also love to have this served with Ratatouille, after pre-cooking and refrigerating overnight to get maximum flavour impact!
