Ahoy, wine lovers! We are thrilled to feature this fantastic Shiraz from renowned Lost Buoy Wines in McLaren Vale, Australia. The winery takes inspiration from the fact that their vineyards are located closer to the sea than any others in Australia, which aside from the obvious benefit of providing stunning views, has a marked influence on the style of wines produced. The home vineyard, from which this Shiraz is sourced, is located a mere 50 meters from the iconic Port Willunga cliffs at the western end of McLaren Vale. While the broader region is widely admired for robust, fruit-driven reds with notes of mocha and warm earth, Lost Buoy's vineyards benefit from cooling afternoon breezes that provide elegance and complexity to their wines.

Winemaker Phil Christiansen, a native of Adelaide, has built his reputation as the "godfather of garage wines" on the strength of his small-batch, low intervention offerings, so climb aboard, grab a glass of Lost Buoy 'The Edge' Shiraz, and enjoy!

Rich, opaque core with a brilliant ruby towards the edge.

Smell

Very expressive nose that opens with warm baking spices (think cloves and nutmeg), with a fruity core of raspberry jam and tart cherry. Underneath there's notes of dry leaves and white pepper, with a hint of cocoa powder adding an impression of sweetness. Lovely and complex.

Taste

2016 was a standout year for McLaren Vale Shiraz and it shows in this wine! It's as full-bodied and rich as you would expect from an Aussie Shiraz, with finely integrated tannins lending a dusty character to the palate. All that structure is supported with refreshing and balanced acidity, leading to a long finish with lots of ripe red berry fruit.

Pairing

This is a perfect wine for the grill, paired with anything from a classic cheeseburger or ribs in a tangy BBQ sauce to flank steak with lots of cracked black pepper.
