Dry white Bordeaux, like this delicious example from La Peyrière in Entre-Deux-Mers, are some of the most under-appreciated wines in the world. And although they are made mainly from the hugely-popular Sauvignon Blanc, they are often ignored in favour of examples from New Zealand or the Loire. But why? It might be because the typical white Bordeaux also includes two less familiar grape varieties: Semillon and Muscadelle. Or it might be because wines from Bordeaux rarely even list grape varieties on their labels, leaving consumers unsure of what they're getting. But regardless of the reason, there's one rule that holds true almost anywhere in the wine world - overlooked usually over-delivers, and that's music to our ears here at WineCollective!

Entre-Deux-Mers (literally "between two tides") is a region named after its location between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers. Although it's the largest subregion of Bordeaux, most of Entre-Deux-Mers is forest, and it's home to only about 250 producers. It's best known for crisp, fruity white wines like this example from La Peyrière, which is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sémillon, and 5% Muscadelle. Half the blend is matured in stainless steel to retain freshness, and the other half is aged sur-lie in oak barrel. The final product is a refreshing, complex white we love!

The Sauvignon Blanc definitely shows on the nose of this expressive wine, with lots of grassy freshness and bright citrus. There's an underlying toastiness reminiscent of roasted almonds from the barrel ageing.


Light bodied but textured, with lingering acidity. Plenty of ripe citrus character and a hint of minerality on the palate and through the medium-length finish.


Grilled halibut with lemon would be the perfect foil for this vibrant white, but it would also pair beautifully with a simple appetizer of fresh herbed goat cheese. Or just enjoy a glass on its own on a hot summer afternoon!
