Rosewood Estate's story began out of a love of beekeeping, which led first to a meadery, and later to the planting of two vineyards in distinct sub-regions of Niagara: one on the Beamsville Bench and the other on the Twenty Mile Bench. Both are sustainably farmed with an eye to preserving the natural landscape, and of course the food sources for the bees they still manage! We fell in love with their wines when we featured their off-dry Riesling in March packages, and couldn't resist including this delicious Bordeaux-inspired blend for June.

Although The Looking Glass blend does include all five Bordeaux varieties (even a bit of Petit Verdot), leave your preconceptions about Canadian "Meritage" wines at the door! There's a lighter winemaking touch at work here and the resultant blend bears only a passing resemblance to its right-bank inspiration. It's a delicious new take on a classic style, and can be enjoyed now or over the next 3 years. Serve at a cool 18 C.

In the glass, the Rosewood Estate The Looking Glass shows a medium garnet with just a hint of cloudiness, suggesting there is minimal filtration in the winemaking process.

Huge, expressive and bright aromatics right out of the gate - with fresh-ground pepper, cinnamon, fresh crab apple, stewed plums, black currant, blueberry, brandied cherries, and charcoal. It's complex, layered, and bright - you'll want a sip right away!

Medium body, with fine, approachable tannins. The acidity is bright and refreshing, reinforcing impressions of tart apple and raspberries. The long finish is well balanced and finishes with loads of blueberry & blackberry. This wine is finessed and light, favouring elegance and freshness over power and weight.

The Looking Glass has enough going on to hold up against bold flavours, but it's light enough to compliment a huge range of dishes. So if you're looking for a versatile red that will pair well with just about anything, you've found it! Try with anything from thin-crust pizza, to tacos, to spicy-sweet grilled Korean short ribs.
