If you're a fan of South African wines, chances are you've come across a bottling by Spier Wine Farm, one of the country's most historic wineries. We've featured a few of their wines in past, but this is a brand new release exclusive to WineCollective members! If this is your first encounter with Spier Wine Farm, here's the cheat sheet on their extensive history: founded in 1692 in Stellenbosch, South Africa, they have an uninterrupted three-hundred-plus year history of wine production. The word "farm" in the name isn't accidental either - the majority of their land is dedicated to farming, raising animals, and wildlife and wetland preservation. They're also the owners of one of the largest collections of South African art in the world and continue to invest in local artists, as well as other community-driven social and environmental programs with their Growing for Good initiative. If that's not enough to get you on board, Spier also happens to make some fantastic wines! Golden Thread is a tribute to their long-tenured Cellar Master, Frans K. Smit, and it's a South-African twist on a classic Bordeaux blend, with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. It's full-bodied and smooth, ready to enjoy now or over the next 5 years at a cool 18 C.

Intensely perfumed, with aromas of ripe red fruit like black cherry and field strawberry, followed by tart cranberry and rhubarb. There's a hint of sweet spice and vanilla, along with a faint tobacco note that ties everything together.
Rich and full-bodied on the palate, with flavours of ripe red fruit like plum and tart raspberry, with a long, mouth-watering finish. With some air and a few swirls of the glass, darker blue and black fruit emerge. The tannins are soft and mouth-filling, and the finish is bright and fresh, inviting another sip.
