Lemelson Vineyard began in 1995 as an experimental planting of a few acres of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris in Oregon's Willamette Valley. From these humble beginnings, it's expanded to include seven sites across three of Oregon's grape-growing regions, all planted primarily to Pinot Noir. Echoing founder Eric Lemelson's passion for environmental stewardship, their vineyard sites are all organically certified and are farmed with a holistic approach to sustainability.
Thea's Selection is the perfect introduction to Lemelson Pinot Noir - it's their house cuvée, and contains fruit from all seven of their vineyards. Meant to be a snapshot of the vintage, it's a pure expression of Oregon Pinot Noir - and it's delicious! Maximum care is taken in getting the ripe Pinot grapes to the sophisticated gravity fed winery, allowing the quality and nuance of each vineyard to come through in the bottle. Pop it in the fridge for 15 minutes to enjoy this fantastic example of Oregon Pinot now, or exercise heroic patience and cellar for an additional 7-10 years.
Vibrant, clear ruby with hints of purple.
Extremely inviting and aromatic, with loads of black cherry, raspberry, and currants. There's a woodsy background note, with warming spices like cinnamon and clove, and hints of orange pekoe tea.
On the palate, Lemelson Thea's Selection is harmonious and silky smooth, with fine tannins supporting the vibrant acidity. The immediate star of the show is the fruit, with flavours of raspberry, cherry, and strawberries, and a hint of red liquorice. The finish is long and pure, with sweet fruit and spice lingering for several seconds.
Pork and pinot have a natural affinity, so opt for grilled, double-cut chops with a cherry and balsamic glaze, or try with baked salmon served with harissa-and-maple-roasted carrots.
