History? Check. Delicious wine? Double check! Vini Pregiati La Mora Pinot Grigio comes to us from Villa Rubini, one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Italy. The history of the estate dates back over 200 years, and the property was home to one of the earliest vine nurseries in northeastern Italy. The current generation of Diletta, Vittoria, and Dimitri carry on this proud tradition of winemaking in one of Italy's most beautiful landscapes. Tucked in the North-East corner of the country, Friuli-Venezia Giulia is arguably one of the greatest white-wine producing regions in the world. The subregion of Colli Orientali is just east of Udine, and the hills ("colli") are perfectly suited to growing the region's star grape - Pinot Grigio. While there's oceans of perfectly pleasant, though maybe forgettable, Pinot Grigios available, one taste of this wine will prove it's a cut above! Enjoy now at a well-chilled 8 C.
Brilliant white gold in colour, with pale, straw-yellow glints.
Ripe tropical fruit greets us on the nose, with mango and pineapple mingling with orchard fruit like peach and lemon. The aromas are intense and inviting, with underlying mineral notes of wet stone and sea spray.
Medium bodied on the palate, with repeating notes of fresh citrus and tropical fruit. Though the nose and flavours suggest sweetness, don't be fooled - this is a dry wine with plenty of zesty acidity! The crispness and lightness end beautifully with just enough fruit to keep you wanting another glass or two. This is the quintessential patio wine for a sunny afternoon.
The classic Italian pairing would be with first course pasta dishes or white fish, but try a twist and serve with milder Thai dishes. The vibrant tropical fruit of the wine would be a perfect match for green papaya salad or Pad Thai with shrimp.
