Following the epic Rhône — one of Europe's largest rivers — you'll find what is arguably France's most prolific winemaking regions. More specifically, the Côtes Du Rhône AOP is home to some of the oldest vineyards on earth and makes up for well over 60% of all regional wine. Who doesn't want to drink wine embedded with that much history?! Dating back well before the 6th Century BCE, Greeks could be found throughout the Rhône river valley planting, harvesting, and ultimately producing wine. This extensive history is not lost on us and is more than enough reason to celebrate the longstanding history of a piece of France whose fruit we are still able to enjoy today.
If you mention Côtes Du Rhône to most wine fans, you're going to end up talking about reds. In fact, wine in the southern region of CDR can include any of 21 varietals, including Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah. Two of these renowned grapes are found in this 2018 vintage red blend from Bruno Lafon. Made using traditional winemaking methods such as temperature-controlled fermentation, this blend was made after long soaking on the skins and ageing in concrete vessels before bottling. The result is a dinner-ready red deserving of your next grand meal! Chill in the fridge for 15 mins before serving at 16 C or wait and cellar up to 2023.

We are immediately struck by the richness and depth of the berries! Stewed fruits like strawberry, currant, and blackberry linger a little before opening up to some hints of spice. This Syrah-forward blend offers subtle bramble and liquorice notes that finishes with juicy plum and blueberry.
A dinner companion wine dream come true! The richness of flavours in this blend are enough to keep you interested, but will not outshine whatever you're serving. Very nicely balanced, the Syrah and Grenache work well together, offering some subtle gaminess and forest floor that is beautifully matched with tart blueberry and ripe strawberry. The tannins are smooth and velvety, with an even acidity that complements everything nicely. A well-rounded red you'll be more than happy to pour a second (or third) glass of!
