You may not immediately recognize the Marzemino varietal, but it is an Italian, deeply-hued grape grown in the northern Trentino-Alto Adige region. In some DOCs, Marzemino is widely used in blends, however here we have a single varietal offering from Roeno. Grown on their "La Rua" vineyard, found off the shores of the Lago di Garda, just northwest of Verona, this location has proven to be an ideal microclimate for the Marzemino grapes, with the average age of the vines being 30 years.

Roeno is a winery with over a dozen vineyard sites, which allows them to grow a wide range of grapes. Their land and traditions have been passed on through generations and to this day remains a family-owned business. As with many other wineries around the world, Roeno is also home to a beautiful Inn, which acts as a welcoming temporary home for wine lovers from around the world. With incredible onsite chefs creating traditional Italian fare amongst the stunning vineyard landscapes, the Roeno experience is one of Italian wine dreams. We're so excited to share a piece of the Italian wine experience with Roeno's 2017 Marzemino. Best served at 18 C between now and 2024.

Classic ruby red with bright reflects of purple.

Smell

A fruity nose with tart cherries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. After some time in your glass the fruits settle, though are still prominently featured. Slight hints of earthiness, eucalyptus, and green bell pepper tone down the fruits, but keep to the background.

Taste

We love discovering new, fun wines! This is a dinner or evening classic, best enjoyed with great company. This Marzemino has a silky, structured texture supported by a medium body and pleasant, slightly grippy tannins. The fruits carry over nicely and add a refreshing tartness without being too sweet or overbearing. A shorter finish makes this the ideal partner for most any meal you want to explore.

Pairing

Mix up traditional Italian fare by making zucchini-noodle lasagna, full of mushrooms, ricotta, spinach, and topped with plenty of grana padano.
