Boen Chardonnay comes to us from Joseph Wagner, the 5th-generation Napa winemaker responsible for the blockbuster Pinot Noirs of Belle Glos. With Boen, his focus returns to the fundamentals of making wine: the farm. That's the literal translation of the name and reflects the care and attention giving to the grape-growing process.
Boen focuses solely on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown in three cooler-climate, coastal regions. Their Chardonnay is a blend of all three regions, combining fruit from the Russian River in Sonoma, the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterrey, and the Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara. Each site lends something different to the final blend, adding layers of complexity and elegance. The judicious use of oak unites the wine and adds richness and texture. If you love ripe California Chardonnay, this is for you!
Enjoy at a cool 12 C over the next 3-5 years.
This rich, golden wine leaps out of the glass with aromas of red apple, baked pears, meyer lemon, and peach. It's complex and indulgent, and the oak lingers in the background with hints of vanilla and toast to support the ripe fruit.
Ripe and full-bodied in style, with loads of ripe orchard fruit, preserved lemon, and warm pastry notes. There's a floral element as well, almost like honeysuckle, that adds some appealing depth. More complexity emerges as it warms up, so don't be afraid to linger over a glass!
With a wine like this, you can either match the richness with full-bodied poultry dishes or creamy pasta or highlight the acidity with shellfish like fresh bay scallops or oysters. Either way, don't be afraid to try some big flavours.
