Vin de France
There's no shortage of French wine regions to explore and dive into, each with distinct conditions that result in staggeringly different wines. The Loire Valley is no exception. Located in the heart of France, it is segmented into four main areas: Lower, Middle, Central and Upper. Each of these divisions is also home to a total of 95 appellations within them! Dizzying - we know! Fournier Pere et Fils has domains in Menetou-Salon, Pouilly-Fume and Sancerre, all of which are located in Central Loire Valley. The main grapes grown here include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gamay and - you guessed it - Pinot Noir! But there's more to this region than just wine; it has been a centre point in history and culture, too! The Châteaux of the Loire was built by French Kings over many years and known for its grandeur and beauty, and Joan of Arc led her troops to a victory here that ended the Hundred Year's War! We're considering Loire Valley for our next wine tour, and you should, too! Serve at 14 degrees Celsius. Drink now or save up to 3 years.
A stunning pale ruby core with aromas of freshly picked raspberries, cherries and blackcurrant that invite us in. A couple of swirls in the glass and an alluring peppery spice comes forward, followed by a touch of grass. We also find a hint of lilac.
There is a juicy and ripe red fruit base with raspberry and blackcurrant fruits that grab our attention. Soft tannins coat our palate, accompanied by a pleasant spice that showcases hints of pepper coming together with a touch of purple flower. The medium body has a pleasing acidity with a lengthy finish that leaves us wanting more. Elegant and finessed, this is a Pinot Noir that reflects the time and care taken to ensure this wine really shines.
Perfectly suited to all your favourite grilled meat dishes. We're dreaming of a steak and a side of grilled vegetables.
