Miro Cellars is the side project of talented Trentadue winemaker Miro Tcholakov, who uses the label to express unique varietals from top California sites. The 2018 Cuvée Sasha is sold out at the winery, but we were able to secure a small amount for our members, and we couldn't be more excited to share. It's the winery's self-proclaimed favourite, and in this vintage, it's a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah sourced from the Chevalier Vineyard right above Lake Mendocino. Miro's winemaking journey began at a very early age in his native Bulgaria, watching and learning from his grandfather as he made the family's annual supply of wine. After studying viticulture (grape-growing) and oenology (winemaking) in Plovdiv, he was selected for an international exchange program that brought him to California's Napa Valley. He never looked back, working his way up at Sonoma's Dry Creek Vineyard from a harvest intern to Cellar Master to Assistant Winemaker. His experience and passion are fully displayed in this delicious blend, which can be enjoyed now or over the next 4 years at about 18 C.
This pale ruby-red wine is full of aromas of ripe figs, baked cherries, and pomegranate that leap out of the glass. With a few swirls and a bit of air, some fresh-cracked black pepper begins to emerge from Syrah's unmistakable contribution to the blend.
Despite the light colour, which is a hallmark of Grenache, Cuvée Sasha is fuller bodied, with silky smooth tannins and loads of bright red fruit flavours. Cherry, ripe plum, raspberry, and pomegranate combine with earthier aromas of spice, black tea, and herbaceous notes of fresh thyme and rosemary. The acidity is light and playful throughout, and the finish is elegant and long.
Cuvée Sasha captures everything we love about Grenache from a food-pairing standpoint. Try with simply-seasoned grilled or oven-roasted chicken with seasonal veggies to allow the wine to shine.
