Though Vinho Verde is probably the best-known style of white wine produced in Portugal, there are gems to be found throughout the country, like this fantastic example from Lavradores de Feitoria in the Douro Valley. It's a blend of Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, and Síria (all native to Portugal), sourced from vineyards stretching across three subregions of the Douro. The blending of several grape varieties, all grown on different soils and at different altitudes, results in an incredibly aromatic, complex white.

Feitoria is a relative newcomer to the Portuguese wine scene, officially formed in 2000 by 15 growers united in a common purpose - to create the best possible expressions of the Douro. While the company itself is young, the members all have deep family roots in the valley and in winemaking. Enjoy this dry, refreshing white at about 8 C over the next year.

Aromatics of peach, honey, and honeydew melon are complemented by floral notes of acacia and jasmine. There's a faint citrus note, almost like clementine oranges, that contributes additional freshness to the inviting nose.

Light and elegant on the palate, with flavours of peach, pear, and green apple, with just a hint of creaminess without being heavy. The acid is lively and spritzy, and the fruit follows through on the clean, refreshing finish.

This would pair beautifully with gently poached halibut or cod, or served alongside a simple fresh-made fettuccine alfredo - the acid in the wine cuts the sauce's creaminess.
