New Vintage! This wine was previously featured in May 2016 packages but is back by popular demand!

In a land that is dominated by Malbec, Chayee Bourras is dedicated to producing the second most widely planted variety in Argentina, Bonarda. The winery is located in San Rafael, west of the province of Mendoza. The origin of Bonarda has been greatly examined. Some used to think that Italian immigrants introduced the varietal at the end of the 19th century to California, when it was thought to be Barbera. After further inspection, it was realized that it is not related to the Italian grape. In Napa, it is called Charbono. The native home of Charbono is Savoie, France, where it is called Corbeau de Savoie or Douce Noir. We met owners of Chayee Bouras Gord Ryan and Katrina O’Reilly-Ryan, who are originally from St. John's, at WineFest in Calgary. The classic, reserve and rosé from Chayee Bourras are only available in Canada! Enjoy at 17 degrees Celsius and serve by 2018.

Initially the nose is bright and aromatic. Raspberry and red fruits develop into intense black fruits of cherry and blackberry.

The variety's wines are generally medium bodied with high acidity. Fruit focused, but with some underlying earthy and herbal notes. Typical to the varietal, the berry fruits dominate. Excellent structure, not a heavy wine, but it has a big mouthfeel and really fills the palate. Medium acidity and slight tannins give a drying feeling. Chayee Bourras produces Bonarda much like the French style.

Think rich food. We think this Bonarda would be knock-out with fried chicken or even schnitzel.
