Montepeloso crafted this divine blend in the picturesque Maremma region of Tuscany, set back from the Tyrrhenian coast and close to the mediaeval town of Suvereto. Just south of their 14-hectare vineyard lies the ancient Etruscan ruins of Populonia. The wealth of beauty and history that covers this area is immeasurable and made even more remarkable by its unparalleled viticulture.
Here the influences of land and sea interact creating a unique winegrowing region. The soft sloping hills gently rise from the coastline to create the spectacular conditions where the cool coastal breeze tempers the intense Tuscan sun. Mineral-rich soils dominate the region covered by a shrubland biome called “macchia Mediterranea”. This comes together with the climate to evoke a brilliantly distinctive regional character in their wine. This enchanting expression of Tuscany is a red blend comprised of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, and Alicante Bouschet. Ready to savour now or will cellar well for 5 years plus. To capture every subtly, A Quo is best served at around 18 C.
Vibrant, fruit-forward aromas billow out of the glass. Bursting with red and dark berries at the forefront as sour cherry, cranberry, red plum, and even rhubarb follow. The sharpness is accompanied by luscious baked aromas of a fruit cobbler, semi-sweet natural vanilla, nutmeg, green peppercorns, sweet tobacco leaf, and faint violet.
Rich baked fruits become sharper. Filled with gushing, dark, under ripened black cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate are pronounced alongside a tight mouthfeel. The tannins are fine and grippy, holding with a long herbaceous finish and impeccably balanced acidity. Notes of thyme, leather, coffee, and a delicate smoky salinity entice us back for more of this captivating blend.
An overflowing experiential charcuterie board would bring out everything this wine can offer or explore it with lively Italian fares like a fresh Caprese salad and a succulent saltimbocca.
