Argentina's global prominence in the wine scene may be closely tied to the runaway popularity of Malbec, but it would be a mistake to think of the country's wines only through this lens. Like most regions that are known for one main flagship grape, there are plenty exceptional "under the radar" bottles that are well worth seeking out. Wapisa is a great example. Located in Patagonia, in the far southern tip of South America, Wapisa's cooler climate and proximity to the cold South Atlantic create ideal growing conditions for grapes like Pinot Noir.
Wapisa's mark on wine extends beyond this great bottle, though: Wapisa owner Patricia Ortiz and her team have been on the forefront of wine research and experimentation. One of Wapisa's most interesting projects has been conducting an ongoing assessment of the impact of aging bottles in the Atlantic, where the increased pressure and movement of the sea accelerates the benefits of bottle aging, delivering wines with increased complexity and nuance.

Classic Pinot Noir aromas of fresh cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate leap from the glass, and as the wine opens up further with air, there's amazing layers of wood smoke, dry leaves, and savoury balsamic.
Medium-bodied on the palate, with a burst of intense red-fruit flavours and a surprising amount of structure. There's a richness to the quality of the fruit, with bright raspberries, cherries, and ripe strawberries, all supported by bright, persistent acidity. The finish is long and pure, with hints of cedar and smoke as it lingers. There's incredible complexity that invites sip after sip.
Like most Pinot Noirs, this is super versatile with food, but shines with lighter proteins like cedar-planked salmon or pan-seared duck breast.
