Mandrarossa is a winery based in Menfi in the southwest of Sicily, where the island slopes gently down towards Africa. Thanks to the special conditions of sunlight, temperatures, and sea breezes, the region is perfectly suited for viticulture. The vines of this Syrah grow on predominantly calcareous soils. This Syrah can be appreciated for its fragrance, its varietal typicality and its territorial profile, which showcases the warmth and sunshine from Agrigento.
Mandrarossa was founded in 1999 after more than 20 years of studying the terroir. The Mandrarossa wines are the result of constant research, experimentation, and innovation. As a result, they represent a Sicily unlike its stereotypes. From the hills of the south-eastern coast that reach the sea, to Etna’s black sands, Mandrarossa locates the ideal placement which allows each varietal to fully express its potential. As an added bonus, this wine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and is also certified as carbon neutral.
This wine should be served at 16 - 18 C, and is ready to drink from now until 2025.
On the nose it is vibrant and fruity with subtle, perfumed floral aromas. It has notes of plum, black fruit, carob, and fig, with hints of elderflower and lavender as well. There is a lot going on here!
The palate has plenty of gorgeous, velvety fresh flavours of ripe black fruit, plums, cherry, and hints of white pepper. There is a subtle spicy note with this wine - just enough to make it interesting. This wine is juicy, fresh, intense, and, frankly, leaves you wanting more! It has a medium body and displays restrained tannins, with a pleasant sweet/sour finish.
Pair this wine with semi-aged cheeses, baked pasta, meat ragout, or grilled lamb.
