Near Montpellier, between Mèze and Marseillan, the Domaine Belle Mare has 63 hectares planted with vines, on the banks of the Étang de Thau, the largest and deepest seaside saltwater lake in the Languedoc. With its extraordinary azure blue water, this inland sea is home to some exceptional oyster and mussel farming, and is known for its famous Bouzigues oysters. The dry, arid climate of the area, along with cool salt air, is perfect for bringing grapes to their best expression.
The domaine has a respect for the biodiversity and the ecosystems of the Étang de Thau. They combine sustainable agriculture and vineyard management best practices, and the winemakers do their utmost to honour the environment. This lovely cuvée, Duo, is a blend of two grape varieties - Chardonnay and Vermentino, and should be served at 8 C. Enjoy from now until 2023.
The bouquet on this blend is intense, loaded with fruity citrus, peach, apple, and pear, along with some delicate floral notes reminiscent of white flowers. This wine reveals an outstanding range of aromas.
The palate here is bright and youthful, with zesty acidity and ripe fruit flavours of citrus, apple, and pear, with a pleasing minerality. This is a crisp, elegant, and stunningly balanced wine which will be so refreshing on a summer day.
Linguine with a white clam sauce would be a nice match, but it would also go very well with a veggie/noodle stir fry.
