Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Monastrell
Alc. 13.5 %
Murviedro Colección Reserva comes from Valencia in Spain, a region known for their enthusiasm and skill in blending traditional Spanish grape varieties like Tempranillo and Monastrell with more recent French imports like Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes from both countries flourish equally in this coastal zone, where hot days, cool nights, and generally poor soils create the ideal conditions for wine growing.
Based in the small town of Requena, Bodegas Murviedro traces its founding back to 1927. At the time, they were among the only wineries in the region to focus on quality production and to bottle their own wines rather than sell in bulk. That commitment to Valencia's potential helped put the region on the modern Spanish wine map, and to this day Murviedro is one of the area's most respected wineries.
Enjoy this bold, fruit-forward red now or over the next 3-5 years, and serve at a cool 18 C.
Aromas of sun-warmed red berries and blueberry compote leap from the glass, along with spice notes of clove and nutmeg. Twelve months in American oak barrels pull together the various components of the blend and add a hint of smoke and vanilla.
Murviedro Colección Reserva is full-bodied and structured, with a dense core of red and blue fruit. The acid is in balance, and makes this wine feel light on its feet despite the serious structure of the tannins. The finish is long, earthy and complex, softening with a bit of time in the glass.
The bold flavours of charcuterie and cured cheese would be a great match, or for a main course, try pairing with roasted lamb to highlight the earthier notes in this wine.
