Profile

Smell

At first sniff, this bold Shiraz/Cabernet blend has plenty of ripe, dark fruit - red cherry, blackberry, plum, along with some pretty floral notes. There are also undercurrents of cedar, vanilla, and pepper.

Taste

This is a juicy full-bodied Aussie red blend that shows vivid, lush fruit - red cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum. Along with an essence of violet, there are also some mint, vanilla, cocoa, pepper, cedar, and oak spice flavours, with a rich earthiness in there. The tannins are medium+ and the acidity is fresh. The lengthy finish lingers at the end.

Pairing

Grilled sausage and veggies from the bbq would be a great match for this bold wine. A smoked brisket would also fit the bill nicely!

Aromas and Flavours

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).

Cedar / Oak

An intriguing mix of clove, sandalwood and resin - the smell of your favourite wooded trail.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Description

This Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend is made at Yenda, in the heart of Australia's Riverland, in South Australia. The winery is state-of-the-art and uses grapes from trusted and skillful growers. The Riverland wine region falls between the bends of the roaring Murray River and the massive brink of the Australian Outback. Its exclusive location and optimal climate gives rise to a wine region that reflects the diversity and quality in their wines, year after year.

The region has a continental climate, with long, sun-kissed days, cooler evenings, and low annual rainfall. The warmth of the long summer days assists the fruit to ripen fully and the low humidity reduces the risk of disease and rot. The Riverland produces an enormous amount of Aussie wine, but there is also a burgeoning trend of boundary-pushing winemakers who make organic and edgy wines from alternative varieties. It really is an ideal place for growing wine. Serve this wine at 18 C, from now until 2023.
