Profile

Smell

This blend registers powerful aromas of black cherry, dried strawberry, raspberry, currant, cigar box, and subtle pepper, tobacco, and rosemary. There are also some resinous, herbal notes that are pretty typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds.

Taste

The wine showcases ripe, dark, juicy red fruit, like red plums, raspberries and tangy red currants, along with some dark cherries. Beside all that generous fruit lie some hints of allspice and spiced meat. This full-bodied wine has fresh acidity, velvety tannins, and enough structure and balance to support some serious ageability.

Pairing

BBQ’d lamb chops would be ideal with this wine, but a grilled veggie flatbread with roasted peppers, mushrooms, and provolone would also be delicious.

Aromas and Flavours

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Black currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Tobacco

The smell of a freshly rolled cigar, slightly sweet, and earthy - just like Grandpa's hugs.

Description

Château Sixtine is a family-run winery - the Diffonty family roots have been traced back to 1673. The property is located in the Vaucluse, between Orange and Avignon, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A famous appellation in the southern Rhone area of France, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is renowned for its Grenache-based blends. Up to 13 different varieties are allowed in these wines, although there are no rules about the proportion of the grapes used. The first vineyards were planted by the ancient Romans. In fact, there are still Roman ruins that can be found in the area. Currently, this winery is under the direction of Jean-Marc Diffonty, who is a fourth generation winegrower. It has been said that he has injected new life into the region, blending modernity and elegance, propelling Château Sixtine into one of the most renowned names in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The name ‘Manus dei’ translates to ‘Hand of God’. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape made up of a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Drink from now until 2028.
