Nondumiso Pikashe was a high school teacher before she decided to jump into the world of wine in 2006. She had an entrepreneurial spirit that just could not be ignored. The words “ses’fikile” translates from Xhosa, the language of her ancestors, as “We have arrived.” Her brand celebrates her proud, indigenous culture, as she wants to change stereotypes about indigenous brands in the wine industry. Nondumiso has a goal of exposing girls to career paths in the industry and making opportunities open to everyone. The company is 100% owned and operated by women.
Since 2016, Nondumiso has had a partnership with Leeuwenkuil Family Vineyards. She doesn’t make the wines, but she works closely with a team of winemakers. She makes the decisions on what style of wines will be made, and sometimes even helps with the harvest. The team of all female winemakers tastes as a group until they get what the end result Nondumiso is looking for.
This white blend should be served chilled at 8 C, from now until 2023.
This award-winning wine is an aromatic white displaying an abundance of scents - ripe peach, juicy lemons, limes, papaya, apricot, honeysuckle, and melon. There is also a beautiful floral bouquet here that makes us want to keep our nose in the glass.
This crisp and fresh white blend shows off fruit flavours of apricot, melon, and golden delicious apple, along with tropical fruit flavours of guava and papaya. There are undertones of lemongrass, and honey, with a flinty minerality. This white has a creamy texture, which is nicely balanced with the zesty acidity.
Serve in the summer sunshine, with a light lunch of fresh leafy salads, a tuna crudo, or dynamite rolls.
