The aromatics of this Monastrell are slightly elevated and expressive, with fruity notes of blackberry, blueberry, cherry hard candy, cracked black pepper, cinnamon, and dark chocolate, along with lovely wafts of violet and crushed rocks.

On the palate, this wine is powerful with a good balance between acidity and chalky tannins. The fruit flavours are full, ripe, and lush with plums, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries. There are oak influences of vanilla and smoke, with savoury flavours of black pepper, and licorice. There is also a herbaceous influence of fennel, with a hint of wet rocks, and a lovely minerality to finish off.

Match with the region's famous Murcia al Vino ("drunken goat" cheese), or pair with herb-crusted, grilled pork chops.

Aromas and Flavours

Eating handfuls of berries straight from the bush, your fingers stained purple for days to come.

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.

A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!

2021 - 2025

Monastrell is the Spanish name for the Mourvedre grapes that are grown in Spain and is the second most planted grape after Tempranillo. Monastrell generally produces full-bodied wines that have complexity and depth. The grape is used mainly in blends, but it can be delicious as a single varietal as well since it has ideal climatic and soil conditions in the region of Jumilla, which shows off the special character of this region.

The Monastrell variety, which is native to Jumilla, represents more than 80% of the grapes in the vineyards of this DO. Jumilla falls within a high altitude valley between the towns of Alicante-Albacete and Murcia, inland about 50 miles from the Mediterranean. It is hot in this part of Spain, but the nights are cool, which helps the grapes to retain their freshness and acidity.

This wine is made with organically-grown, ungrafted grapes from dry-land vines. Interestingly, almost all of the region grows grapes organically, with 80% being certified organic.

Enjoy this wine at 18 C, from now until 2025.
