Tempranillo's signature bright red fruit leads the way, with aromas of ripe red cherry and fresh raspberries. There are hints of black currant and plum in the background, but the overall impression is one of freshness, with no oak to be found.
Medium-bodied and silky-smooth on the palate, with fine dusty tannins and just the right amount of bright acidity. It's a bit more savoury than the nose would suggest, the red-fruit flavours being joined by hints of balsamic and spice. The finish is long and pure, with flavours of cherry jam and a quick hit of freshly-cracked pepper.
Match with a freshly-prepared appetizer of cured cheeses and charcuterie, or pair with grilled sausages, peppers, and onions.

Penedès, on Spain's north-eastern coast, is one of Europe's oldest viticultural areas, but it's undergone many waves of transformation since the Phoenicians first planted grapes here in the 6th century BC. Today, its fame comes primarily from the production of Cava, one of the world's greatest sparkling wine values. So ubiquitous is Cava in the area that you'd be forgiven for never having tried one of the region's outstanding still wines. Time to change that!
Bodegues Sumarroca, like many wineries in the area, devotes a large percentage of their production to Cava, but makes the stunning line of Vincles wines exclusively for restaurants. The red is a blend of Spain's most famous grape, Tempranillo, along with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The proximity of Penedès to the south of France has contributed to a long history of blending the two country's star grape varieties. Enjoy this vibrant red over the next 5 years at a cool 16 C.
